Carl is a graphic designer with over 30 years’
experience in the design & creative industries.
He has spent most of his life doodling, drawing
and collecting imagery. The exhibition at Shrewsbury
Market Hall deuring December 2023 & January 2024
is his first time solo exhibition of his work.
The work shown there was from his collection of
doodles based on lines and circles. Each doodle
simply starts with Carl making a mark on a piece
of paper – and seeing where it goes. The only
plan is for the use of lines and shapes. He likes
to use various weights of Fineliner & Rotring
pen, Sharpies, Marker pens and bits of old
Linocut – usually on white card in A4, A3 or A2.
Carl is influenced by popular culture, by words,
lettering and signs – along with the shapes
that we see around us on a daily basis.
Since 2003, Carl has been the joint Creative
Director of Branded by Jones (Carl Jones Design),
the branding and communication agency he
co-founded. Based in Shropshire since 2004,
Carl previously spent 12 years at London based
design and branding agencies.
