Katie is an artist based in Market Drayton Shropshire and originally studied Fine Art (BA Hons Degree) at Staffordshire University and went on to complete her MA in Fine Art at UCE Birmingham.
Katie has had her work shown in many group and solo shows, both in the UK and internationally.
Her abstract paintings are vivid, expressionistic compositions, combining metal leaf with colourful acrylics and watercolours.
Many works capture a fleeting moment when light meets land or water. Ideas are derived from Katie’s love of natural landscapes and seascapes. Her works seek to capture fragments of nature’s richest hues, luminous skies and reflected ocean lights both over and underwater.
Moments experienced whilst scuba diving and journeying across both sea and land, are a constant source of inspiration in Katie’s canvas and paper works.
An avid traveller, her photographic images capture glimpses of landscapes, architectures, history and portraiture from home and away.
Whilst post editing processes and photographic printing techniques have become important tools of the trade in constructing some images, it really is the moment of balancing light, colour and composition whilst using the camera, which are really integral to Katie’s photographs and also vital in her painted works.
That intimate connection of capturing the subject in the lens is the moment that Katie finds most inspiring. Particularly rewarding is the defining a sense of place or in trying to express a context for a portrait to become a personality within a specific setting or location.
