I am a self-taught artist based in Shrewsbury and pretty new to this. Er… hang on - I don’t mean new to “art”, I mean “letting other people see it”.
Since I was a child, my approach to artwork was biased towards creating 'realistic' images, first with pencil, then using fine-nib ink pens to create ‘pointillism’ images. My love of photography enabled me to capture images that I would aim to recreate with my drawings.
More recently, since the first Covid lockdown in 2020, I discovered that I actually enjoy painting with acrylics too and introduced colour to my artwork.
Sadly, around the same time, I became critically ill, was made redundant from my job (not as an artist!) and began an unavoidable career break to deal with major heart surgery and a couple of pretty unpleasant complications that followed. I'm still coming out the other side of this and have found that picking up the paint brushes again is helping me to continue the process.
The experience has had an impact on my artwork and now I'm really enjoying painting 'from the heart' (pardon the pun) rather than just from photos.
