I’ve taken photographs for as long as I can remember but I only started exhibiting and selling my work in 2003. I’ve exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Shrewsbury Arts Trail, Church Stretton Arts Festival, Gateway Gallery, Bridgnorth Open House Arts Trail and the Three Counties Exhibition at Keele University where my photograph, ‘Interior’ won the Focal Point Prize sponsored by Hulme Upright Manning Architects.
For me photography is about curiosity. It is about revealing the beauty that lies hidden in the everyday, such as the patterns and shapes formed by the illuminated gondolas of a Ferris wheel, the flower-like symmetry of an arrangement of café tables or the columns and iron lacework of a pier contrasted against a perfectly uniform sea and sky.
I don’t use Photoshop and other than some cropping I don’t normally manipulate my photographs in any way. I prefer to capture and print the image as it appears using natural light, distortion through reflection, unusual angles and incongruous combinations of elements to stimulate new ways of looking at the world.
Recently, I started making collages again. I find the freedom of working with found images liberating and the selection and composition of those images certainly has parallels with my photographic practice.
All my images are available in different sizes and formats; with prices ranging from £3.00 for a 5x7 inch greeting card to £70 for an A3, signed, limited edition giclee print.
